Collaborative Law
The most recent statistics suggest that almost half of UK marriages will come to an end. The real cost of a relationship breakdown is not really financial although anyone who has been through the process will know how costly court battles over splitting the family assets can be.
The real cost is the personal and emotional turmoil that so often accompanies the end of relationships. A bad divorce can be damaging not just to the couple concerned but also to their children, their extended family and support network.
As a firm we are committed to adopting a non-confrontational approach to divorce and encouraging couples to look at what is best for the family as a whole.
Most people going through a divorce or separation would rather avoid having to go to court, if possible. The collaborative family law process is an alternative to the Court process. We will discuss with you whether collaborative law is right for you.
The collaborative family law process is a relatively new way of dealing with family disputes. Each person appoints their own lawyer but instead of conducting negotiations between you and your partner through your solicitors by letter or telephone, you sit down together with your former partner and their solicitor and commit to sorting it out together. You will be able to share your hopes and fears and the four of us work together to reach an agreement with which we will concur.
By the end of the process you are ready to get on with the rest of your life without the bitterness and unresolved anger that so often accompanies divorce.

We adopt the conciliatory approach which puts the needs of any children involved first. Collaborative law is a natural extension of this idea. By all sitting together to ensure that couples stay in control of their own future instead of leaving decisions to a Judge in a Court room.
Instead of dealing through solicitors collaborative law involves couples working with their solicitors altogether in the same room to reach an agreement without the need for costly and stressful court battles.
