Raworths, the Harrogate law firm, put together the largest team for the annual Saint Michael’s Hospice Midnight Walk raising over £1,000 for the charity. The firm is celebrating 125 years in Harrogate and nominated Saint Michael’s as the firm’s charity for their anniversary year. Twenty four walkers, including Teddy, the dog, from Raworths took part in the event which is now in its sixth year.
The aim was originally for the team from Raworths to walk 125 miles in celebration of the firm’s birthday but so many members of staff joined in that the number was far exceeded. The firm which was started by Edwin Raworth in 1887 now employs 56 people. Christopher Butterworth says, “We were delighted that so many of our staff wanted to support Saint Michael’s Hospice in their renowned Midnight Walk.”
Almost 800 local people took part in the walk on June 30th and pledges of group and personal sponsorship made on the night suggest the event has raised more than £50,000 for the charity – a huge boost towards the £3.8million needed each year to maintain services. The Midnight Walk has raised over £550,000 for Saint Michael’s Hospice and nearly 5,000 walkers have completed the 6.5 mile circuit since the event began in 2006.
