Nick Jenkins, the founder of Moonpig.com, the business which has revolutionised the greetings card industry, was the main speaker at the recent meeting of the Raworths Solicitors’ twice yearly business breakfast club held at Bettys in Harrogate.
Nick Jenkins founded Moonpig.com in 1999 and, by 2007, controlled 90% of the online greeting card market in the UK. Having expanded into the Australian and American markets in 2010, the company sends out over 8 million greetings cards each year and was sold to Photobox in July 2011. Nick Jenkins talked about his early career in Russia in commodities before coming up with the idea of an online greetings card business. He talked about his original concept, how to beat the competition in the market, and the growth and success of the business which offers more than 10,000 customised cards at the touch of a computer key.
Other speakers at the event included Simon Morris, head of Corporate at Raworths who provided an insight into protecting business against taxes in the event of death and Raworths’ insolvency consultant, Stephen Baylis who gave a talk on to protect business from the threat of insolvency and how to structure contracts to protect business in the event of insolvency in suppliers and customers.
Over seventy guests attended the event in Bettys’ Imperial Tea Rooms. The next Raworths’ event will be the bi-annual Employment Update which will take place on 19 March and will cover the latest round of changes in employment legislation.
