Law Society President Puts Innovation to the Fore

Sarah Minors, the youngest ever President of Harrogate and District Law Society, unveiled her plans for her year of presidency with innovation at the top of the agenda at her recent reception held at Goldsborough Hall.

The annual Harrogate and District Law Society summer event is the highlight of the year and over 50 people attended including District Judge Wood and the Mayors and Mayoresses of Harrogate, Ripon, Knaresborough and Pateley Bridge. The Harrogate and District Law Society is nearly 100 years old and its purpose is to provide support and training for the area’s legal profession.

As the youngest ever President, Sarah Minors of Raworths Solicitors is seeking to innovate and develop the Society, working with training officer Kate Maybury to create new opportunities for education for practising members and to play a more important part in the professional life of the area. The Society has launched a new website (www.hdls.org.uk) and created an innovative programme of education events as well as more social activities for members. Sarah also announced a visit by the incoming President of the Law Society of England and Wales, Andrew Caplen in September when members will have the opportunity to air their views on the profession.

The reception at Goldsborough Hall included the opportunity to play croquet and quoits on the lawns as well as hear a talk about the history of the Hall by owner, Mark Oglesby.

Harrogate Law Society President Sarah Minors joined the Family Unit at Raworths in 2005 and quickly became a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association) which is a national organisation of family lawyers committed to non-confrontational divorce, separation and other family problems. Sarah achieved accreditation from the Law Society’s Family Law Scheme in 2011. Sarah now specialises in divorce, financial applications and children cases including emergency applications and inter-jurisdiction matters
