Raworths Solicitors recently held their second employment law update seminar of the year at Betty’s Imperial Rooms with changing conditions of employment high on the agenda. Over seventy local business people attended the seminar, despite the rain, proving that the event which has been running bi-annually for the last ten years is still an important date in the local business diary.
Amongst the topics for discussion, Raworths employment solicitor, Victoria Notman gave a presentation on changing terms and conditions of employment. She said: “This is a minefield area, notoriously fraught with the potential for a number of costly claims. Establishing a sound business reason for the changes and taking advice on the contract and how to follow a fair procedure will go a long way to avoiding the pitfalls.”
Leading the seminar, Deborah Boylan, partner and head of Employment at Raworths gave an overview of the forthcoming half-yearly changes in employment legislation and how key cases have affected dismissals for redundancy and holiday and sickness absence.
Liz Pollock, employment solicitor, also guided employers on how to approach managing employees who are under-performing in the workplace. Liz Pollock said: “Following a poor performance procedure takes time but the risk of not doing so can be costly tribunal claims.”
The next employment law update seminar will take place in March 2013. For more details, please contact Deborah Boylan at Raworths on 01423 566666 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
