Phil has over ten years experience in corporate/ commercial work, having spent his legal career in the Yorkshire area acting for SME’s. He has a range of experience, including a large multi-million pound joint venture shareholders’ agreement in relation to care homes, drafting of assignments and licensing agreements and bespoke terms and conditions for various clients. For five consecutive years, he presented a seminar on commercial law to around 40 elite entrepreneurs each year selected by the main Yorkshire Universities.
Phil also has experience outside of the law, having been the Director for the North region for the Federation of Master Builders. Having also gained a Diploma in Management, Phil understands the needs of SME’s and their unique requirements. He represented the Federation in newspaper, radio and television interviews and also led the negotiations in the North with key business and local government leaders, including board members of Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP’s), councils and MP’s. He was also on the committee of the Leeds City Region LEP Communications Group which was influencing policy to drive the spending of the funds that LEP’s were receiving.
It is always rewarding to see clients who you have dealt with for a number of years growing and succeeding. Being a part of that gives me plenty of satisfaction.

At the Federation of Master Builders, I was due to attend a routine meeting in London when I had a call on the train down that as the most senior person available could I go to the Houses of Parliament to represent them? An urgent issue had arisen, as the Government had issued guidance about the taxation of landfill which had caused confusion- the proposal meant that the cost of dumping of skip waste could be substantially increased putting many ongoing building projects in jeopardy. The issue was resolved through dialogue but it had been a close call for many of our SME’s.
