Raworths Art and Wine Event Nets More Than £2k for Yorkshire Cancer Research

Raworths transformed its Harrogate premises into a hot bed of art to raise thousands of pounds for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Raworths LLP opened up its historic Eton House headquarters on Station Parade on 7 September 2011 to sell the captivating work of internationally known Bingley artist Jane Fielder and up and coming young Bradford talent Amy Charlesworth especially in aid of the regional cancer charity.

The evening charity event saw well over 100 business people and art lovers turn up to secure a piece of the Yorkshire artists’ work which featured many beautiful images of Harrogate as well as Yorkshire industrial drawings and unique flower, landscape, animal and life portraits.

Watercolour and oil paintings were displayed across two floors of Raworths’ town centre premises and 20 percent of all sales went directly to Yorkshire Cancer Research which helps Yorkshire people beat cancer and funds more than 200 internationally-recognised cancer scientists and clinicians at hospitals and universities across the region.

Artist Jane Fielder, who last year was asked by famous English sculptor Antony Gormley to stand on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square as part of his imaginative 100-day portrait of Britain exhibition, said she and fellow artist Amy Charlesworth sold at least 20 pieces of orginal art on the night along with hundreds of cards. One guest alone bought seven paintings, including the most expensive on display.

Jane said: “It was a fantastic evening in terms of art sales and we raised lots of money for Yorkshire Cancer Research through the process – more than £2,000 through ticket sales, a raffle and donations from the art sales.

“Amy’s Harrogate Pump Room painting sold straight away as did my West Park Harrogate portrait. There was a lot of interest in our local scenes and we would love to exhibit in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research in this way again.”

Christopher Butterworth, Raworths Senior Partner said: “Cancer touches so many lives and we are delighted to have played a small part in helping such a worthwhile charity, we would like to thank the local businesses and individuals who generously donated raffle prizes on the night.”

Raworths, who are charity partners with Yorkshire Cancer Research for 2011/12, would like to thank Taylors of Harrogate, Harrogate restaurants Sasso and Chez la Vie, The Slug and Lettuce and Mr Peter Yendall, who donated a bottle of champagne.
