Harrogate lawyer Deborah Boylan, who is an employment partner at Raworths LLP, has been selected by the Law Society to test the efficiency of two hi-tech gadgets for use by solicitors. The gadgets were Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) or hand-held computers.
Deborah tested the Palm Treo 750v and the Sony Ericsson M600i for the Law Society to discover which worked most efficiently under the rigours of the professional life of a busy employment lawyer. Deborah claims that she was the ideal tester as she believes that time-management and ‘techie’ skills are not amongst her strengths.
The trials have been instigated by the Law Society to help solicitors to get in touch with the real-life use of IT in the workplace. Overall the Sony Ericsson came out on top for Deborah who says, ‘Once they went back, I realised how useful they were, especially to check my diary outside the office, add appointments and up-date them once I was back in the office. I am certain the remote access would be a huge advantage.’
